Great tutorial on creating the look of old vintage shipping crates or wine boxes
I love the look of this piece and not only do I love the look, I love the idea. Creating an old vintage shipping crate or wine box look is a wonderful way to bring character and antiquity to a plain box you have sitting in your basement. It definitely makes it more appealing to look at and display instead of tucking it away to collect dust and take up space, wouldn’t you agree?
The addition of the calligraphy was perfect. It really brought to life the idea of this box being an old shipping crate. Even if you don’t know how to write in a calligraphy style, you can still replicate the penmanship. There are plenty of free calligraphy stencils online or you can recreate the wording on your computer and print it out. Then use that printout as a stencil and paint in the letters in black paint like the example in the picture.
I like the idea of sampling the stains on a separate block of wood first. That will give you a good idea of what the final look will be without messing up the box that will be on display.
