There are certain stitches than lend themselves well to being able to play with a variety of color schemes. You can make your own dramatic patterns and fashion statements using this “spike” type stitch routine. Try it for granny squares, or even if you are stitching rows. Here are the simple steps to a dazzling finished product:
Start by CH 2 and have multiple colors of yarn available to change with every row.
- Row 1-2: Complete 2 rows of standard DC, changing the color yarn at the end of each row.
- Row 3: DC 4, TC through the first DC of two rows beneath, DC 4, TC through the first DC of two rows beneath. Repeat this pattern for the length of the row, turn and change colors. Continue this until you have the length and width desired.
The pattern that emerges is a tiered āLā design and can be quite dramatic, depending on your choice of color schemes. Any project done this way will have your signature original stamp on it. For an even more dramatic look, drop the TC down thee rows. The longer the spike down, the more interesting it becomes. This is a really fun stitch to play with.
