DIY Crochet Minion!!

Here’s the perfect Halloween minion costume for a baby in the 0-3 months range. It’s adorable and very easy to crochet. You can easily adjust the pattern to fit toddlers and small children. Follow the steps below to have an original outfit that everyone will love!

 

 

Minion Hat: The hat will be done in a continuous round. Use a movable marker to make it easy to distinguish one round to the next. Try not to hold too much tension on the yarn so that it will be flexible when complete.

  • Round 1: Start with bracketed instructions (CH 2,6 SC in 2nd CH from the hook, join with a SL ST in the first SC), CH 1, 6 SC in the beginning ring, join with a SL ST in first SC, put the marker in the place and move with each round. Total of 6 STs.
  • Round 2: SC in the next ST, 2 SC in the next ST and repeat for a total of 18 STs.
  • Round 3: SC in each of the next 2 STs, 2 SC in the next ST and repeat for a total of 24 STs.
  • Round 4: SC in each of the next 3 STs, 2 SC in the next ST and repeat for a total of 30 STs.
  • Round 5: SC in each of the next 4 STs, 2 SC in the next ST and repeat for a total of 36 STs.
  • Round 6: SC in each of the next 5 STs, 2 SC in next ST and repeat for a total of 42 STs.
  • Round 7: SC in each of the next 6 STs, 2 SC in the next ST and repeat for a total of 48 STs.
  • Round 8: SC in each ST to the end of the round.
  • Round 9: SL ST in the next ST, fasten it off. Use black yarn in any ST, CH 1, SC in each

ST to end of the round, join with a SL ST in the first SC.

  • Round 10: CH 1, SC in each ST to the end of the round, join with a SL ST in the first SC.
  • Round 11: Repeat round 10
  • Round 12: SL ST in the next ST, fasten it off. Use yellow yarn in any ST, CH 1, SC in each

ST to end of the round, join with a SL ST in first SC.

  • Round 13: SC in each ST to end of the round, place ST marker and move as you complete rounds. Repeat until the hat reaches the dimension you need. End the last round: SL ST in next ST, fasten it off. Weave in the ends to blend.

Small Eyeball:

  • Round 1: Use brown yarn, (CH 2,6 SC in 2nd CH from the hook, join with a SL ST in the first SC) , CH 2, 12 DC in circle. Repeat for 12 STs. Fasten it off and add white yarn in any ST.
  • Round 2: CH 1, 2 SC in each ST to the end of the round, for 24 STs.
  • Round 3: SC in the next ST, 2 SC in the next ST and repeat to the end of round for a total of 36 STs, SC in last ST. Fasten off the white yarn and add gray in any ST.
  • Round 4: CH 1, SC in each ST to the end of the round for a total of 36 STs, join with a SL ST in the first SC.
  • Round 5: CH 1, SC in FLO of each ST to end of the round, use an invisible join to fasten it off, leave a long tail to sew the eye on the hat. Weave in the other ends, sew a black button on the center of the eye.

 

Mouth :

Sew a basic mouth onto the front using black yarn and a yarn needle.

Hair:

Cut 4” lengths of black yarn and attach them to the top of the hat by running them through stitches. Knot them to secure.

 

Bottom:

 

Begin by CH 40

  • Row 1: DC in the bottom of CH 3 space, DC across the row, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 2: DC across the row, 2 DC in last stitch, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 3: DC in CH 3 space, DC across the row, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 4-5: DC across the row.
  • Row 6: SL ST in the next 10 DC, CH 3, DC in the next 18 DC, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 7: Skip the first two DC, DC in the next 15 DC, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 8: Skip 2 DC, DC in the next 12 DC, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 9: Skip 2 DC, DC in the next 9 DC, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 10: Skip 2 DC, DC in the next 6 DC, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 11: DC across the row, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 12: DC in CH 3 SP, DC in the next 2 DC, 2 DC in the next DC, DC in the next 2 DC, 2 DC in the last ST, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 13: DC in CH 3 SP, DC in the next 3 DC, 2 DC in the next DC, DC in the next 4 DC, 2 DC in the last ST. CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 14: DC in CH 3 SP, DC in the next 5 DC, 2 DC in the next DC, DC in the next 6 DC, 2 DC in the last ST, CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 15: DC in CH 3 SP, DC in the next 7 DC, 2 DC in the next DC, DC in the next 6 DC, 2 DC in the last ST. CH 3 and turn.
  • Row 16: DC across the row and fasten it off.

Sew the button on the bottom of the panel to be the secure for the right and left portions.  You can SC a round of black yarn to the edge to set it off.
