Have you noticed the newest fashion statement going around? The maxi is a skirt made to fit your body and your body only. The maxi is a wonderful skirt to wear during the spring, summer and fall months. You do not need to be an avid sewer in order to make a maxi skirt.
This picture also goes to show that cut on a dress makes your body look different ways. The girls are ultimately the same height.
Things You Need:
Sewing tape measure
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Step 1: Start by measuring your waste where you would like your skirt to sit, for example if you want a high waisted skirt or a low waisted skirt measure there
Step 2: Lay your fabric out flat – double layered – on a flat surface and then fold in half.
Step 3: Start at the folded edge and measure your waist measurement in half, for example if your waste is a 30 you would measure 15.
Step 4: Measure down to the maxi skirt making sure the fabric is not too long for your height. Unfold your fabric.
Step 5: It’s time to sew each side together and set aside.
Step 6: Horizontally measure your waist, your hips, your butt, and right underneath your butt and then vertically measure from your waste to just under your butt. Cut your fabric according to these measurements allowing an extra 5/8 of an inch for the seam.
Step 7: Sew the top piece of the skirt onto the bottom piece using the fabric and measurements you took in step five.
Step 8: Sew elastic underneath the waistband of the skirt.
Step 9: Hem the bottom of the skirt and you are done.
